Bob and I enjoyed our night in the Night Swan B&B. It really is a very nice place and Martha, Mary and Heather couldn't be more helpful. We had a very nice relaxing breakfast and then packed up and left for Melbourne Beach.
Unfortunately for us, the route was not on A1A along the beach but the dreaded Route 1 which is more inland. Although there were areas that were not very congested, it felt like we spent the entire day riding past a very long strip mall!
We rode past the Kennedy Space Center although it was across the river. It was impossible to make out anything except the very large assembly buildings which are very distinctive. As the space program is winding down, you can see how Brevard County is starting to suffer the economic consequences. There are many small businesses as well as shopping malls closed. It is sad to all of the stores dark.
It began to get very hot especially when we stopped. It made me appreciate the East wind off the ocean that we had yesterday.
We finally turned off Rte 1 and went over the causeway to again get on Rte A1A. It was not any better because the traffic was heavy and we were riding into a South wind. Finally we came to a little motel with cottages instead of rooms. It is actually pretty nice. It has a living room and kitchen in addition to the bedroom.
Tomorrow will be a better day as we are on the coast most of the way.
