Charleston to Beaufort SC 64 miles - Cum 1,601 miles

The day started off as a crisp bright sun shiny day. Before we could even get started, Bob discovered chain grease on the collar of his shirt. I don't know how he could have gotten chain grease on his shirt without putting his head down on the chain but he says he didn't do that. Anyway Bob asked me if WD-40 would remove the chain grease. I said that I thought it would but what would he use to get rid of the WD-40? We walked up to breakfast and as we were walking, Bob said, " I smell WD-40", imagine my surprise!!! At least his shirt didn't have grease all over it.
We again started down Rte 17 on our way to Beaufort. It was a gorgeous morning even if it was a little cool. We passed many beautiful areas in the low country, rivers, swamps and wild life. It was a pretty nice ride.
We stopped for lunch at the Wood Brothers grocery store for lunch as it was the only thing for miles around. Bob and I were eating chili dogs at an outside table when a truck and trailer pulled up. The next thing we knew, the clerk who waited on us came outside to look into the trailer. Then a South Carolina State Trooper who had stopped for gas went over to take a look. I told Bob that he should go over and see what it was but he didn't want to. Then the store clerk went back in and came out with a camera and took a picture. The State Trooper went over to his car and came back with a camera and took a picture. That did it for me, I went over to the trailer and took a look and immediately went back to get my camera and took a picture which you all can see here. I spoke to the man who had brought the alligators in. He said he was a professional trapper and trapped alligators for property owners who wanted to get rid of them.
The were at least 8' long. They were as long as the trailer they were in. I never suspected that they were all looking at alligators. One man in the store said he would like to have the tail as it tasted like chicken and was good eating. No Thanks!!!!
We continued down Rte 17 eventually coming to an area where the road was under construction. We were able to ride on portions of the new road without worrying about traffic. Of course Bob managed to get a big chunk of tar on his tire. As we were working to get the tar off the road, a man stopped and asked if we had a flat. We said no but he gave us a inner tube and a pump to use anyway. It was pretty nice of him.
We continued down Rte 17 until we got to Rte 21 which led us past the Marine Corps Air Station. I seem to be making this a Marine Corps pilgrimage. I have rode my bike past Quantico Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejune and now Paris Island and the Marine Corps Air Station.
We arrived a the hotel at 3;30PM. We had a good ride and tomorrow we will ride into Georgia!!!!
