Bike is on the way!
I shipped my bike and trailer to Bar Harbor yesterday. Hopefully it will get there on Tuesday as scheduled. With the hurricane, there is no guarantee that it will arrive on time. I was surprised at the weight of the boxes. The bike box weighed 49lbs and the trailer box weighed 46lbs. Of course that included all of my tools and biking equipment but still!!! I figure my clothes and laptop and maps will weigh another 25lbs so the toal will be around 150lbs. That seems like a lot. I may be shipping stuff home from Bar Harbor. Oh well, that is part of the adventure!

Norbert, we all know you're a strong rider.
ReplyDeleteHow much slower is your average speed with the trailer?
Does riding with the trailer mean we can climb hills side by side without me gasping for breath?
Looking forward to riding with you!
Dave
Hi Norbert, Bobbi was telling me about your trip last week and I managed to find your blog. I just wanted to wish you safe travels. Sounds like an awesome trip!

Dave,
ReplyDeleteI seem to loose 1 mph using my Surley touring bike instead of my Trek Madone and I also loose another 1 mph with the trailer. The Surley is geared down to 32 teeth on the big ring where as my Trek only had 27 teeth so I find the climbing to actually be a little easier with or without the trailer. The Surley is a softer ride than my Trek.
Pat,
You can still ride along, meet me at Jack and Bobbi's in Peach Bottom on the 21st and you can join up!
I can't spell either!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to, but work's nuts right now and will probably be so until after the holidays. I did the Pittsburgh to DC ride a couple years ago with a friend, but haven't done any bike trips since. A couple of us are thinking about doing it again this spring.
